I finally pulled these photos off my camera a couple days ago, and they made me think, I don’t usually talk about my own little neighborhood…so I thought I would share a little bit about it — along with some super cutie photos…
I have to admit, I’m more of a fall/winter holiday girl. And we usually head to the mountains to escape the heat over the 4th of July, but this year there were so many fire restrictions at campsites across the Rockies…and what is camping without a campfire, after all? So we decided to make it a long staycation weekend, and it turned out to be super fun.
We live in a little community called Lakecrest Cape…we have a big lake just to the north of us….Standley Lake, hence the name.
Every 4th of July the local fire department sends a truck out to lead a parade of decorated bikes, trikes, wagons, kids, dogs, etc around the neighborhood, ending up at the local pool for popsicles and swimming.
Sounds like good old-fashioned fun, doesn’t it? It is!

Later that night, we walked over to Standley Lake, where we could see 5 or 6 fireworks displays at any time, including huge shows in Westminster, Broomfield, and I think Louisville. It was pretty cool! The best part was, not having to sit in after-fireworks traffic or fight for a good spot to watch the show!
What did you do to celebrate the 4th? Does your community have a tradition/celebration that you can participate in? Want more information about Lakecrest Cape? Let me know!
