What to Do in Denver – Paint!

Looking for something fun and different to do?  How about creating your own painted masterpiece while enjoying a cocktail or two?

On a recent snowy night we ventured into LoHi’s Sipping N Painting – a perfect little art studio/bar that offers a fun way to tap into the right side of your brain — which unfortunately most of us do not get to use often enough!

There was a blank canvas set up at each station, along with a palette of paints and a jar full or paintbrushes.  As the art instructor/bartender showed us the painting we would be learning to create it seemed totally impossible for a novice to paint — but she broke it down into simple steps, cranking up fun music in between, and kept reminding us to silence our inner art critics and just go with it.  I loved the super technical terms she used, including “blobbies” “splotches” and “swishies”.

It was so fun to watch people on awkward first dates relax as the night went on and each painting started to come to fruition.  There were also several girls’ groups, a bachelorette party, and random pairs of friends — and everyone seemed to have a really good time.  It was really cool to see how different each of the paintings turned out even though we were all following the same directions, and it was really nice to come home and hang my version of “The Blue Door” in my dining room!
